The people behind the research.

  • Head of Research

    Nikita M. Shirokov

Nikita leads the institute’s research and wrote its papers on the Bondi dipole and on wormhole dynamics. The work sits where general relativity meets high-performance computing: numerical relativity on GPUs, with CUDA and HPC clusters, and the analysis and visualisation of what the simulations produce. Nikita is also a researcher at Gravity Frontiers.

The path here started in aerospace engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute, with a diploma project on a lunar CubeSat driven by its own electric rocket engine, and led to Roscosmos, to the power system of an electric propulsion engine for deep-space travel. A master’s in applied mathematics and physics at MIPT followed, in the theoretical physics department at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna: gravity first, then data analysis for the international DUNE neutrino experiment, then superconducting spintronics, where Nikita made an existing numerical method at least 60 times faster while improving its precision.
